Robert C. Steinke, President and CEO, is the controlling shareholder in Monterey. Mr. Steinke has been in the consumer financing and collection business since 1968. He started his career financing health club memberships and was promoted to President of this concern in 1979, managing eight offices and outstanding receivables exceeding 20 million dollars. In 1982, Mr. Steinke joined another firm in the same industry as Executive Vice President. His primary responsibility was to diversify the client base of this company, thereby reducing dependence on the health club industry, and he eventually developed this concern into the financing leader in many of the unique industries mentioned on page 3 of the Consumer Finance sections), which it then used to purchase consumer installment contracts for its finance division.
Chris Hughes, Executive Vice President, graduated from San Diego State University in 1993 with a degree in Business/Marketing. Chris joined Monterey Financial Services in 1995 in the loan-servicing department. He quickly proved himself and in 1996 was promoted to Assistant Manager and six months later to Collection Manager. In year 2000 he was promoted to Vice President of Operations and in 2007 to Executive Vice President. His responsibilities include the oversight and executive management of Operations, IT, Client Services, Human Resources, Cashiering, Accounting and Corporate Legal. Chris's ability to demand professionalism and performance while meeting Monterey's clients' expectations has proven to be a great asset to Monterey's growth.
Shaun Lucas, Vice President of Operations, joined Monterey in 1999 and became Supervisor of the Loan Servicing division his first year. After leading the staff to record numbers, he was promoted to the Finance Manager in 2000. Shaun has an analytical background, graduating from Idaho State University with a degree in biochemistry, and exercised these skills in reviewing portfolios and industries in great detail. Shaun was named Director of Finance in 2006 followed by a promotion to Vice President of Operations in 2007. In addition to overseeing the Finance, Loan Servicing and Collection divisions, his responsibilities presently include assisting Sales and Marketing with developing new clients and maintaining relationships with existing clients. Shaun's history of setting a high standard of expectations for the performance of Monterey's staff combined with his analytical ability is a large part of Monterey's success.
Scott Little, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, has been with Monterey Financial Services since 1994. His primary responsibility is to oversee the business development of both new and existing clients. Prior to holding his current position as Vice President, he served as the National Sales Manager and was previously the Collection Manager for Monterey's delinquent loan collection division. A graduate of the University of San Diego, Scott received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Following his graduation he was employed by Enterprise Rent-A-Car where he managed their largest rental fleet in Southern California. Scott's ability to immediately formulate business relationships with both clients and co-workers have contributed immensely to Monterey's continued success.
Kathi Steinke, Vice President of Credit, has worked in the finance industry for over 30 years, specializing in consumer credit review and client due diligence matters. Kathi joined Monterey in 1994 and was previously credit manager for finance companies for over a decade. Under her leadership, and that of her credit manager, Lisa Pruitt, Monterey has developed a sophisticated credit processing system to include an instant approval 24/7 O.A.S.I.S. program. She is a member of the credit committee and provides invaluable input and experience regarding both consumer and client credit decisions.
Dave Bultemeier, Controller, has been with Monterey since 2001. Prior to joining Monterey Mr. Bultemeier worked for Pricewaterhouse Coopers in its audit and tax divisions. In addition to the valuable experience he developed working for one of the nation's largest accounting firms, Mr. Bultemeier has served as corporate Controller and Chief Financial Officer for multiple consumer finance companies. Mr. Bultemeier graduated with distinction from Indiana University with a degree in Accounting. Mr. Bultemeier's responsibilities at Monterey include the coordination of all internal financial and audit controls, annual financial projections and reporting, budget creation and assessment, and collateral and regulatory audits. Mr. Bultemeier also fills a key role in the establishment and maintenance of important lender and client accounting relationships.
